The whole nation is fighting Corona. But the Congress Party, it appears, is failing to contain the Corona of resignations plaguing the party. Soon after the speaker accepted the resignations of five Congress MLAs in Madhya Pradesh, there was another shocker for the Congress. Five of its MLAs have resigned from the Gujarat Assembly. Wiith this the Congress' strength in the assembly has come down from 73 to 68.
The five MLAs went to the Speaker and submitted their resignation. The speaker promptly accepted them. The resignations have come ahead of the Rajya Sabha elections. Elections would be held for for Rajya Sabha seats from Gujarat and it was expected that both the Congress and the BJP would win two each. However, with these five resignations, the victory of the second Congress MP is in jeopardy. The BJP can win the third seat now. There are fears that few more Congress MLAs would resign in the coming days making it very difficult for the Congress to win the second seat. The BJP has 103 MLAs and can win the third seat if few more Congress MLAs resign.
Alarmed by this development, the Congress has planned to shift all its MLAs to a resort in neighbouring Rajasthan. The MLAs wuld be lodged in Jaipur city to prevent further resignations.
