With both the TRS and the BJP going hyperactive to win over Telangana, can the Congress lag behind? The Congress too has begun focusing on increasing its strength. The party has started the digital membership recruitment programme in a big scale. Also, it is trying to merge smaller parties into it.
Sources say that the Telangana Congress leadership is trying to merge Telangana Inti Party, a sub-regional outfit, which has considerable support base in Nakrekal, Suryapet and parts of Nalgonda, into it. The Congress leadership led by Revanth Reddy is currently holding talks with Telangana Inti Partyâs chief Dr Cheruku Sudhakar.
Dr Cheruku Sudhakar is a Telangana activist and was repeatedly arrested during the movement for the formation of a separate Telangana state. He has unsuccessfully contested for the MLA and MLC elections. Sources say that he, his wife Lakshmi and son Suhas are planning to join the Congress party.
They are said to be in talks with AICC leader Koppula Raju. Both Revanth Reddy and party incharge Manickam Tagore are also in favour of the merger. They too are said to have held several rounds of meetings with Cheruku Sudhakar.
However, the biggest hitch in this whole exercise is how will Nalgonda strongman Komatireddy Venkat Reddy will perceive these developments. Will they cooperate with Cheruku Sudhakar? Will they welcome Cheruku Sudhakar and his family? Will he help Cheruku Sudhakar in realising his dream of winning from Nakrekal?
