TDP must be facing the toughest crisis of its existence these days. For the TDP, August seems to have come in May itself. Several key leaders are reportedly ready to desert the party. Only the intense wave of Corona is standing between them and their leaving of the TDP.
Joining the lost list of TDP leaders, who want to leave the party, is former union minister and TDP candidate for the recent Tirupati Lok Sabha bypolls Panabaka Lakshmi. Sources in the know say that it is only a matter of time when Panabaka Lakshmi will make her decision public. In fact, Panabaka, a longtime Congress leader, was never comfortable in the TDP. She joined the TDP ahead of the 2019 election quite hesitantly, contested and lost the Lok Sabha elections. Her husband Krishnaiah had contested for the MLA seat and lost badly. She was reluctant to contest this time too. But, Chandrababu had announced her candidature without even taking her opinion into account. So, she was a reluctant candidate for Tirupati.
The saddest part of the whole story is that the YSRCP had invited her twice into the party. On both occasions, he took a wrong decision. Now, even if she wants to join the YSRCP, there seems to be no vacancy. Another option before hear is to join the BJP, but the BJP's position is so weak in AP that there is no point in joining them. But, it appears she is determined to leave the TDP first and think of what to do next.
