AP Cabinet Approved Disha Act

The Andhra Pradesh cabinet led by Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy has approved the Andhra Pradesh Criminal Law(Amendment) Act which is also called the Disha Act. The Act provides harsher punishments which include the death sentence for the guilty in the heinous crimes and assaults against the women.

The news of brutal gang-rape and murder of the 26-year-old veterinarian Disha has created a sensation across the nation. After knowing the horrific incident of Disha, AP CM Jagan has proposed this act that promises to punish the rapists within 21 days.

 

The establishment of the Andhra Pradesh Special Court dedicated only for the Offences against Women and Children Act 2019 was also approved by the state cabinet. This enables to establish special courts in every district for the crimes against women and children.

The bill also takes action on those who upload posts on social media which degrades the reputation of women under Indian Penal Code section 354 (E).
