AP: Government to challenge Local Body Polls Election Notification!

Despite the requests from the Andhra Pradesh government to differ the local body polls as it is not possible to go for the local body elections, State Election Commissioner Nimmagadda Ramesh Kumar released the schedule for local body elections.

The state government, which is against the decision to conduct the local body elections amid the Coronavirus fears is said to have moved the House Motion Petition on the local body polls.

According to the media reports, the court heard the house motion petition in the view of Sankranthi holidays announced to the Andhra Pradesh High Court over the local body polls.

In the petition, the state government sought directives from the High Court to postpone the local body elections taking the Coronavirus-related situations into consideration.

The High Court said it will hear the petition from Monday. Now, all the eyes are on the hearing of the case, as to what directives will the court give regarding the elections.

It has to be noted that, the APNGOs and the Andhra Pradesh Police Officers Association has written to SEC Nimmagadda Ramesh Kumar that they cannot be a part of the polls due to the Covid-19 fear.
