The much-talked-about Pegasus Spyware issue which had sent shocking waves across the nation had made its way into Andhra Pradesh as well. The political heat in the state had increased at once when West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee alleged that an offer of Pegasus Spyware was made to the state police during the previous AP government tenure.
For the past few days, the ruling YCP has been attacking the grand old Telugu Desam Party on the Pegasus row. Showing no sign of leaving the grand old party in this matter, the ruling party YCP had upped the game in probing the matter.
As part of that, the Andhra Pradesh government is said to have constituted a dedicated Legislature House Committee which will have the purpose of looking into the matter and digging deeper into the controversy.
Bhumana Karunakara Reddy will lead the committee while Bhagya Lakshmi, Abbayya Chowdary, Kolusu Parthasarathi, Amaranath, Merugu Nagarjuna, Maddala Giridhar will serve as the members of the committee.
The YCP has been alleging that the Telugu Desam Party would have bought the spyware and used it against them when YCP was in the opposition. Keeping up the fight, the committee has been constituted. Now all eyes are on the committee.
We have to wait and see what the committee will find out. Probably this is the first time a state government has formed a dedicated committee to probe the alleged Pegasus spyware controversy.
On the other hand, Telugu Desam Party is saying why would it buy the spyware and asked if YCP would have come to power if they used the spyware. They had earlier quoted former Director General of Police Damodar Gautam Sawang as saying that no such purchase was made during their tenure.
Looking at the Pegasus row that became a big controversy in India, it is believed that the spyware was used on various personalities that belong to various fields and domains. The list includes journalists, politicians, and business people as well. The issue had reached the Supreme Court as well. A special committee has been constituted by the Supreme Court to look into the matter.
