Social media became quite a popular medium across the nation over the past few years. The news and info shared on social media get instant viral. Many times fake news also gets shared which carried misinformation.

As a bid to combat the fake news and disinformation, the Andhra Pradesh government led by Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy came up with a portal to tackle the spread of fake news.

CM Jagan had launched the AP Fact Check portal and the official Twitter account of the Fact Check Wing of Government of Andhra Pradesh at the Chief Minister Camp Office at Tadepalli.

Talking about the new portal, CM Jagan said the main agenda behind bringing the portal is to provide a powerful tool for the public to check if the news they read/share on social media is true or not.

The authorities will take strict action against those who spread fake and false news on social media. No one has the right to defame the dignity of a person or a system, CM Jagan said.

"CM YS Jagan launches Fact Check website. The portal was designed to counter the fake news and provide authentic news to the public. Actions will be taken if posts were made on social media demeaning systems, Religions, Castes, Political Parties, and persons," the official handle of the YSRCP party tweeted in Telugu.
