It is known that the Andhra Pradesh High Court had given a favorable verdict to the protesting Amaravati farmers earlier on the capital issue. In the verdict, the High Court directed the Andhra Pradesh government to develop Amaravati as the capital and hand over the developed plots to the farmers.
Even after the court directed the state government to develop the region, the government did not focus on the region. Unhappy with the development, a few farmers from the Amaravati have knocked on the doors of the High Court with a contempt of court petition.
Alleging that the concerned officials did not implement the court orders intentionally as the government wants to have three capitals in the state for the decentralisation of development. The bench of the Andhra Pradesh High Court will hear the petition today.
All eyes are on the High Court now to know what the High Court will say hearing the petition. In the past, the government had faced the wrath of the courts on various issues. Going by the developments, the government might face the same one more time.
Contempt of court is not a small thing. The petition is filed to tell the court that either a government or the official did not implement the orders issued by the court and this is nothing but disrespecting the court.
Andhra Pradesh government led by Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has a long history of facing shocking orders and verdicts from the High Court and the Supreme Court as well. Hearing a petition, the Court said that it is aware of what is going on in the state and they are well informed.
The YCP which was in opposition when the TDP proposed Amaravati as the capital and started developing it had changed its decision after coming to power. Overturning this, the YCP-led government said that the state will have three capitals so that the state will be developed rather than developing only Amaravati.
When the government proposed the three-capital idea, the Amaravati farmers started a big protest. After protesting for one and a half years, the court gave a favorable verdict to the farmers. Now the issue reached the High Court one more time.
