Update: 2020-04-13 12:01 GMT
The Andhra Pradesh High Court has shocked former Election Commissioner of AP Nimmagadda Ramesh Kumar who moved the court to seek a stay on his evacuation from the post.

The court did not give any stay on this and directed the AP government to file the counter affidavit before April 17. However, the High Court also asked the petitioners to file their objections by next Friday and till then the new SEC will continue to hold the office.

The YS Jagan Mohan Reddy-led AP Government said that they have appointed the new SEC as per the descretionary powers enjoyed by the state.

Earlier apart from Nimmagadda TDP and BJP have moved the court citing that the process is against the law and there is no need of removing the SEC in this situation.

The removal of Nimmagadda from the SEC post happened with the approval of the state Governor to the ordinance put forth by the state government by making amendments in the Panchayati Raj Act reducing the tenure of the SEC to three years from five years.
