Update: 2020-12-23 10:46 GMT
The local body elections has resulted in disputes between the Andhra Pradesh government and Andhra Pradesh State Election Commissioner (SEC) Nimmagadda Ramesh Kumar.

While State Election Commissioner (SEC) Nimmagadda Ramesh Kumar wants to conduct the local body elections, the state government is not in favour of the local body polls given the Covid-19 situation.

As the latest development in the local body polls row, the Andhra Pradesh High Court issued directives to the state government over the conduction of the local body elections.

The High Court asked the state government to write to the Election Commission over the conduction of the polls and said, the Election Commission will take a decision on this.

Adding further, the High Court said that three officers should be sent from the government to meet the SEC. The SEC will then take a call on the conduction of the polls.

The new directives from the High Court came after the Andhra Pradesh government moved the court challenging the decision of the SEC to go for the polls in February, next year.

During the hearing of the petition, Counsel Ashwini Kumar who represented the SEC told the court that if the Centre releases the Corona vaccination schedule, they would abide by it.
