Update: 2021-01-11 11:49 GMT
The much talked about local body elections commencement in Andhra Pradesh ended in favor of the state government.

The Andhra Pradesh High Court which heard the petition filed by the government issued sensational directives over the Panchayat elections which have been in the headlines over some time.

The court issued directives to suspend the election schedule issued by State Election Commissioner Nimmagadda Ramesh Kumar for the local body polls.

While issuing the orders, the Court said that decision was taken in the view of the public health as the local body elections should not come in the way of the vaccination process.

The Andhra Pradesh government moved the High Court challenging the election schedule issued by the SEC. After hearing the arguments, the court suspended the schedule.

Earlier, Nimmagadda Ramesh Kumar issued an election schedule for the polls on the 8th of January, stating that the local body polls will be held in three phases.
