AP Panchayat Elections: SEC Nimmagadda Ramesh Kumar's Crucial Meeting With Governor!

Update: 2021-01-22 07:55 GMT
Andhra Pradesh State Election Commissioner(SEC) Nimmagadda Ramesh Kumar, who is high on confidence over the Panchayat elections has met Andhra Pradesh Governor Biswabhushan Harichandan today, reports claimed.

According to the information, the SEC met the Governor to discuss the required steps that are needed to be taken for the smooth conduction of the Local Body elections.

On the other hand, media reports also claimed that the main agenda behind SEC's meeting with Biswabhushan Harichandan is to discuss the transfer of Guntur and Chittoor district collectors.

The meeting gained a lot of significance, as SEC met the Governor, a day after the High Court gave its verdict on Local Body elections and directed the Election Commission and State government to coordinate in holding the elections.

The division bench at the Andhra Pradesh High Court on Thursday gave its nod for the Panchayat elections and quashed the verdict of the single judge bench in this regard.

In the verdict, the division bench said that public health and elections, both are important and the elections should be conducted without causing problems for anyone. The division bench asked the state government and the state election commission to coordinate with each other to hold the elections smoothly.

As another development in the issue, the Andhra Pradesh government has knocked on the doors of the Supreme Court challenging the verdict of the High Court on the Local Body elections.

The Supreme Court will hear the petition filed by the AP government today. Now, all the eyes are on the Supreme Court hearing on the Panchayat elections.
