The Andhra Pradesh Panchayat elections are special for several reasons. So far we have seen family members like brothers, sister-in-laws, brother-in-laws, and friends competing in the elections.
To make the elections even more interesting, a couple from Alluru of Mudinepalli have filed their papers as Panchayat Sarpanch contestants. Someswaraswami Temple former Chairperson Reddy Radhika has filed her papers as an independent Sarpanch candidate. During her service as temple chairperson, she has spent Rs 3.5 lakh from her savings to develop the temple.
Radhika's husband Reddy Vithal has also filed his papers as a Sarpanch candidate for the Alluru Panchayat. Five candidates, including the couple are in the race for the Sarpanch post.
However, Vithal couldn't withdraw his nomination from the elections. With no option left, the wife and husband had to go ahead with the elections. The Election Commission allotted Ring and Basket as poll symbols for wife and husband respectively. By finalizing Reddy Radhika's candidacy in the polls, the wife and husband are requesting the voters to vote for the ring symbol.
