Article 370 Scrapped, Jammu & Kashmir Bifurcated!

In Rajya Sabha , Home Minister Amit Shah declared NDA Government has decided to revoke Article 370 of the Constitution which grants special status to Jammu & Kashmir. In addition, A decision was taken to bifurcate Jammu & Kashmir into two Union Territories. While Jammu & Kashmir will have a Legislature, Ladakh won't have a Legislature.

There was a huge uproar in the Upper House when Amit Shah made this sensational announcement. Opposition MPs stormed into the Well to stage a protest.

In Jammu and Kashmir, Former CMs Mehbooba Mufti, Omar Abdullah and another prominent leader Sajjad Lone were placed under house arrest as a precautionary measure. Internet and Mobile Services were suspended in Jammu & Kashmir. Section 144 was imposed in Srinagar.

As per the Amendment made in the Constitution on October 17th, 1949, Article 370 exempts Jammu & Kashmir from the Indian Constitution. Which means, A restriction was imposed on Parliament powers when it comes to J&K.

Today, Amit Shah moved a resolution in Rajya Sabha to ensure Article 370 won't be applicable to J&K anymore. The notification (Constitution [Application To Jammu and Kashmir] Order 2019) on Article 370 was signed immediately by President of India. From now, Jammu and Kashmir will be a Union Territory with Legislature and Ladakh is going to be a Union Territory without Legislature.
