Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley made it clear that there is no agenda of introducing new notes of Rs 1000 denomination as of now. He explained the exchange limit is being reduced from Rs 4,500 to Rs 2,000 only to reduce the misuse of funds. He also sees it as a measure taken to take the new currency to a large number of people.
Arun Jaitley informed that about 22,500 ATMs will be re-calibrated Today to dispense new currency notes. He says close to 2 lakh ATMs have been functioning right now.
Condemning the speculations of cash crunch, Arun Jaitley assured there is enough cash and no shortage what-so-ever.
Banks have been placing an ink mark on the right index finger of persons who come for exchange of notes to stop them from using the facility more than once per day.
