Aurangabad name change: Shiv Sena MP says dispute with Congress can be sorted out
The demand to change the Aurangabad city name has created quite a political stir in Maharashtra. Surprisingly, two parties in the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) are of different opinions on the issue.
The Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) which bats for Marathi significance in the state has been demanding to rename Aurangabad's city name to Sambhajinagar. They want the name to be changed before January 26.
Amid this, Balasaheb Thorat, Chief of Maharashtra wing of Congress on Thursday said that they will not support the demand to rename Aurangabad as Sambhajinagar.
The Shiv Sena has highlighted the old demand to rename the Aurangabad city, before the much-anticipated Aurangabad civic polls. They want to t-rename the city as Sambhaji Nagar.
The demand has been going on since 1995. When the then ruling Maharashtra government led by the Shiv Sena and BJP alliance issued a notification, a Corporator from the then opposition Congress moved the High Court and Supreme Court in this issue.
When the experts are citing an alleged rift between the Congress and Shiv Sena, Sena's Sanjay Raut said that the issues can be sorted with talks and it will be resolved.
The saffron party BJP, which couldn't form the government in Maharashtra with disputes over seat-sharing is trying to get benefit from the name change issues and not leaving any stone unturned to mock the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government.
