Janata Dal (United) Chief, serving Chief Minister of Bihar, Nitish Kumar, who came to power in November last year with an alliance with the saffron party BJP has announced his first Cabinet expansion.
As part of the expansion, BJP's Syed Shahnawaz Hussain, late Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput's cousin Neeraj Singh Babloo, Sumit Kumar Singh, Sanjay Kumar Jha, Jama Khan, Pramod Kumar, Shravan Kumar, and Nitin Naveen took oath today
Out of the 17 Ministers, nine BJP leaders got a berth in the cabinet, while eight Janata Dal-United leaders were included in the list. Nitish Kumar made sure that all the key departments like Home, Personnel, Education, Rural Development, Rural Works, Water Resources stay with JD(U).
The cabinet expansion took so long after the formation of the government as the Bharatiya Janata Party(BJP) leadership took some time in selecting the final list of candidates for the cabinet.
Looking at the portfolios in the new cabinet expansion, the saffron party BJP and JDU have 22 and 21 portfolios respectively. The industry portfolio was given to Shahnawaz Hussain, while Deputy Chief Minister Renu Devi was given the disaster management portfolio.
Experts cite that, despite having fewer portfolios, Nitish Kumar purposefully held the key portfolios among his party so that he could have a good hold on the government, though he had an alliance with BJP.
Leaders like Sanjay Kumar Jha, Shravan Kumar, Lesi Singh of JDU and Madan Sahni, and Pramod Kumar of the BJP who held Ministries in the previous government had also taken oath today.
