Ever since the saffron party BJP came into power at the Centre, the party has been on a spree of renaming the names of structures and places. Mainly in the stronghold Uttar Pradesh, the Bharatiya Janata Party is renaming one after the other. The BJP government renamed Allahabad as Prayagraj.
The saffron party even changed the name of the Jhansi railway station to 'Virangana Lakshmibai' railway station. Of late, the BJP has been trying hard to rename the iconic Taj Mahal as Tejo Mahalaya. A few leaders from the party openly claimed that the structure was built on top of a Hindu temple.
As a shot into the arm efforts in this regard, the Agra Municipal Corporation reportedly tabled a proposal that says that the monument should be renamed as Tejo Mahalaya. One Shobharam Rathore, who is a councilor from the Bharatiya Janata Party has named the proposal.
The BJP councilor maintained in his proposal that the original name of the structure was Tejo Mahalaya which was later changed to Taj Mahal. Saying that the property was owned by Raja Jai Singh and it is not good to see a burial as a palace, he observed.
However, the proposal is yet to be discussed in the house by the members. The proposal is likely to come for discussion and once it is discussed, the house would think about what options should it take next.
Though it is not an easy process to rename the structure, looking at the way the party is hellbound about this, it might not be an impossible task.
On the other hand, the issue has already gone to court as well and the members of the Bharatiya Janata Party are trying hard to prove that the Taj Mahal was built by bringing down the Shiva temple and that the Taj Mahal was built on top of the temple. The BJP supporters are citing the alleged Archaeology survey finding to back their opinion.
Moreover, the Bharatiya Janata Party is in power in Uttar Pradesh and at the centre and nothing is impossible for the party if it needs.
