BJP Announces Bhupendra Patel as Gujarat Chief Minister

After Vijay Rupani announced his resignation as the Chief Minister of Gujarat, the top leadership of the Gujarat wing of Bharatiya Janata Party(BJP) held a crucial meeting to pick the successor of Vijay Rupani as the Chief Minister.

The leadership had picked Bhupendra Patel as the new Chief Minister. He is serving as the BJP MLA from the Ghatlodiya constituency in Ahmedabad. The meeting took place on Sunday.

The BJP gave the big responsibility of picking the new Chief Minister to Central Ministers Pralhad Joshi and Narendra Singh Tomar. The duo was instrumental in picking Bhupendra Patel as Chief Minister.

Vijay Rupani who had stepped down as the Gujarat Chief Minister on Saturday reached the Gujarat Raj Bhavan to tender his resignation to Governor Acharya Devvrat.

The opposition parties in Gujarat had targeted BJP over Rupani's resignation saying that the resignation issue is nothing but a gimmick to shift the focus from the mishandling of Coronavirus in the state. However, the reason behind the resignation is yet to be known.
