BJP begins Operation Lotus in Maharashtra

Update: 2019-11-25 07:30 GMT
The BJP, which is looking smug and confident in Maharashtra, has unleashed its Operation Akarsh. If highly placed sources are to be believed, several MLAs from both the Shiv Sena and the Congress are now planning to defect to the BJP. According to the sources, at least 24 Shiv Sena MLAs are not interested in joining hands with the NCP and the Congress. A powerful Shiv Sena leader is leading the group and they have told the Shiv Sena bosses that they would rather sail with ideological partner BJP rather than to enter into an opportunistic alliance with the NCP and the Shiv Sena.

Meanwhile, at least 30 of the 45 Congress MLAs are planning to leave the party. When the high command finds no fault with joining communal Shiv Sena, what is wrong if we want to join hands with the BJP. They argue that it is always better to have the same government in the Centre as well as at the state. This will ensure proper development of the state.

Alarmed by the development, NCP chief Sharad Pawar and Shiv Sena's Uddhav Thackeray rushed to the Renaissance Hotel where the NCP MLAs were lodged and tried to convince them of the need to stay together. After they found that some police personnel in plain clothes were moving in the hotel, they shifted all the MLAs to another place.
