Confusion reigns supreme in the BJP over the candidate in the upcoming bypolls to the Nagarjunasagar assembly constituency. The BJP is still on the lookout for the right candidate for the bypoll. The party wants to continue the momentum that it got in the Dubbak and the GHMC bypolls, but is unable to zero in on the right candidate.
Though Nivedita Reddy, who contested and got 2600 votes in the 2018 elections has begun her campaign, there is yet no clarity on whether she would be the party candidate for the bypolls. Ditto with BC candidate Kadari Anjayya Yadav. He too is busy working out strategies for the bypoll. But, there is no clarity whether he would be given the ticket. The party wants to announce its candidate only after the TRS announces its candidate. It will decide on whether to field a Reddy or a BC for the Nagarjunasagar polls.
As of now, the BJP insiders say that the party is focusing only on getting the second position. If the party manages to get the second position, it can safely claim that it is a strong contender for 2023 elections. The party feels that even if it cannot win , it should aim for the second position at least. This would help the party in 2023, the thinking heads of the party feel.
