Sex scandals, it appears, are refusing to leave the BJP. The party known for character and discipline is now rocked by a sleaze clip involving Karnataka irrigation minister Ramesh Jarkiholi. The video, which surfaced on Tuesday, showed the minister in a compromising position with a woman. The video, which was released to the media on Tuesday, created quite a sensation.
Earlier too, Karnataka has seen such incidents. During Yediyurappa's earlier stint as chief minister, three BJP MLAs were caught watching porn clips inside the assembly even as the session was in progress. Similarly, there were sleaze clips of senior BJP leader Sanjay Sharma in the past. This has cut short his political career abruptly. Dinesh Kallahalli, who released the clip to the media, sought protection to the victim and her family members. However, Kallahalli stopped short of mentioning the name of the minister. He was careful not to mention the name of any politician in the press conference.
This time around, the minister's video has been revealed at a time when the BJP is facing a bypolls to Belagavi Lok Sabha seat and Maski and Sindagi assembly seats in Bidar district. The BJP is also facing assembly elections in five states, ie. Assam, Bengal, Puducherry, Kerala and Tamil Nadu and the party has high stakes in these elections.
Sources say that the woman met the minister to seek his cooperation in making documentaries on the irrigation projects in the state. The minister, he alleged, offered the woman a job in the Karnataka Power Corporation Ltd and sought sexual favours in return. But, the woman set a trap and recorded his amorous activities, Kallahalli said.
