BJP maintains safe distance from Pawan Kalyan over comments on film industry

Update: 2021-09-28 11:29 GMT
Pawan Kalyan's comments against the YSRCP government's attitude towards the film industry are still the talk of the town. The YSRCP has decided to hit back and many YSRCP leaders have begun the slanging match. They are slamming him for his comments. YSRCP leaders, including minister Perni Nani have targeted Pawan Kalyan and said he has turned a film's pre-release function into a political platform.

Several neutral organisations like the Telangana – AP film chamber of commerce too have criticised Pawan Kalyan. It said that Pawan Kalyan went out of control while speaking and said that his speech could permanently damage the relations between the film industry and the government. Friendly relation with the governments of the day was the need of the hour, it said.

Significantly, Jana Sena's alliance partner BJP is largely silent on Pawan's comments. It did not come out openly in support of the actor. It clearly appears that the BJP is largely uninterested in the whole controversy. It seems not interested to involve itself in the issue. No BJP leader of the state has commented on the issue. The only comment that came from the BJP was from Rajya Sabha MP GVL Narasimha Rao. But, even his comment was against the way an allout attack was launched on Pawan Kalyan rather than on what he had said. He said such an attack only betrayed the despotic tendencies in the YSRCP.

It appears the BJP is viewing this whole controversy as a personal issue of Pawan Kalyan and is not interested in coming to his defence. The party feels that the party will not gain anything by supporting Pawan Kalyan. Hence, it has largely kept way from the whole controversy.
