Young BJP MLA from Gujarat Ashaben Patel passed away on Sunday evening. She was 44. Ashaben is an MLA from Unjha. She was admitted to Jaidas Hospital in Ahmedabad with complaints of Dengue. She was earlier tested positive for Covid. Though she recovered and was discharged, she developed post-covid complications.
Her condition turned serious on Sunday and she succumbed by evening.
Ashaben was known for her role in the Patidar agitation of 2015. She is also considered quite close to Hadik Patel. Later, she joined the Congress Party and won from Unjha constituency in 2017. She created a sensation when she defeated six time MLA and former minister Narayan Patel.
However, she soon developed deep differences with the Congress Party. She also opposed some of the comments of her mentor Hardik Patel. In 2019, the differences became irreconcilable and she resigned from the party. Later, she joined the BJP and resigned from the MLA post. In the bypolls, she has won with a handsome majority.
Gujarat CM Bhupendra Patel expressed shock and grief at the sudden demise. He said she was young and had a lot of future. He expressed his condolences to the family members of the MLA.
