BJP MLA's controversial remarks on Taj Mahal

Update: 2017-10-16 07:56 GMT
BJP MLA Sangeet Som opined Taj Mahal is a monument built by traitors and a blot on Indian Culture. He found fault with the People who objected the removal of Taj Mahal from Uttar Pradesh Tourism booklet. 'What history are we talking about? Shahjahan, the creator of Taj Mahal, imprisoned his Father and wished to wipe out Hindus. It's very disappointing if such people are a part of our history…we will change this history,' he said.

Opposition Parties alleged BJP is spreading hatred due to the narrow minded approach of its leaders. Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi shot back at BJP saying even the Red Fort was built by the same group of traitors. 'Will Narendra Modi stop hoisting National Flag from there? Can Modi and Yogi ask Tourists not to visit Taj Mahal?,' he questioned.

After the backlash, UP Government declared Taj Mahal is a part of India's proud heritage. It went on to the say the views expressed by Sangeet Som are just his point of view and neither UP CM Yogi Adityanath nor his Government agree with them.

UP Government declared Taj Mahal is the major tourist destination in the country. It claims to be committed to the upliftment of Agra and Taj Mahal.
