Now that the ruling YSRCP's Rajya Sabha dilemma is over, it is now focusing on how to leverage its strength in the upper house of Parliament. With its bulldozer majority, the party is likely to increase its tally by three more seats. Now, the TDP would be left with only Kanakamedala Ravindra's seat. But, his term too would be over in a few months.
Andhra Pradesh has 11 Rajya Sabha seats. Of these, the party currently has five seats. When the latest Rajya Sabha polls are held, the number would swell to nine. With its absolute majority, it can win all the four seats. Thus, its tally will go up to 9. Thus it will gain absolute control in the Rajya Sabha tally too.
The remaining two seats - that of BJP's CM Ramesh and TDP's Kanakamedala Ravindra - will complete their term in April 2023. Sitting Rajya Sabha MP Vemireddy Prabhakar Reddy of the YSRCP too will complete his term. The YSRCP will win all the three seats, thus grabbing all the 11 seats under the state's quota.
Currently, the YSRCP has 150 assembly seats. One seat is lying vacant on account of the untimely demise of minister Mekapati Gautham Reddy. The TDP has 23 seats, but three of its MLAs are acting as associate members of the ruling YSRCP. The lone MLA from the Jana Sena is now officiating as a YSRCP MLA. Thus, there is no likelihood of the TDP winning any seat in the Rajya Sabha.
