Update: 2019-12-27 09:14 GMT
The Karnataka government is looking to copy the Uttar Pradesh government, asking the alleged protesters to pay for the damage caused on public properties in Mangaluru during the anti-Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) protests on December 19.

State Revenue Minister R Ashoka has said that the government would soon decide to enact legislation to seize the properties of those involved in damaging public property.

The state government in Uttar Pradesh issued notices to protesters, caught in pictures and videos, for damage to public property caused during violent protests against the CAA. The state government asked protesters to pay over Rs 50 lakh to avoid attachment of their properties.

Last week, the anti-Citizenship (Amendment) Act protests turned violent in Mangaluru, where two people were killed in the police fire. Police have shared CCTV footage of the protest, which shows masked men destroying CCTVs, blocking roads and police vans and pelting stones in various parts of the city.
