The Union Cabinet today approved The Medical Termination of Pregnancy Bill, 2020, which proposed the extension of the limit for abortion to 24 to 20 weeks.
The Bill was introduced in the Parliamentary session, the Union Cabinet today approved the bill, the limit is extended to 24 weeks, the extension will help the survivors of the rape victims. The extension in the abortion will not apply in the cases of substantial foetal abnormalities by Medical Board.
Speaking on this Union Minister Prakash Jawadekar said the progressive reform will give reproductive rights to women, this move is crucial because in the first five months there are cases where the girl doesn't realise and go to court and it was discussed by various stakeholders. It will reduce maternal mortality. It is a step towards the safety and well being of the women and many women will be benefitted.
