Andhra Pradesh is going to get another prestigious institution. Today union cabinet has granted approval for the establishment of National Institute of Technology (NIT) in Andhra Pradesh state and orders has passed to the effect. Till now Andhra Pradesh state did not have NIT and this has been set up to cater to the needs of state of Andhra Pradesh
A statement which was issued from union ministry read that NIT will ensure that the students of AP will get adequate opportunities to pursue research at various levels including under-graduate, post-graduate and doctoral levels. The permanent campus is located at Tadepalligudem town of West Godavari district in Andhra Pradesh. Around Rs. 400 crores has been granted by Government of India for the establishment of this campus.
Foundation stone was laid for the institute on 20 August 2015 by the HRD union minsiter Smriti Irani and the Andhra Pradesh CM Chandra Babu Naidu. The permanent building is likely to be completed within two years in an area of 176 acres. Meanwhile a temporary campus identified at Sri Vasavi Engineering College, Pedatadepalii near Tadepalligudem.
