Cabinet meeting chaired by PM Modi approves several key decisions

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has chaired a crucial Union Cabinet meeting on Wednesday. To announce the main decisions taken by the Cabinet, Union Ministers Prakash Javadekar and Ravi Shankar Prasad called for a press briefing.

The union cabinet gave its nod to Incentive Scheme for the IT Hardware sector, which gives a boost to the domestic manufacture and attract more investments for the IT hardware.

The cabinet has approved the proposal to permit elderly people, above the age group of 60 to get vaccinated with the Covid-19 vaccine. The age group will be permitted from the 1st of March.

Cabinet has decided to provide Coronavirus vaccines for people working in over 10,000 government agencies. These vaccines will be provided free of cost.

To attract investments, the Union Cabinet announced production linked incentives(PLI) scheme for laptop, tablets PCs, and all-in-one servers. The govt will release nearly Rs.7,350 crore for the next four years.

The allotted  Rs.7,350 crore amount includes Rs.7,325 crore of incentive amount and Rs 25 crore for the administrative charges.

The multi-crore scheme approved by the Union Cabinet is expected to employ skilled and unskilled people. The scheme is likely to generate 20,000 and 80,000 direct and indirect jobs respectively.

The flagship scheme of the Central government, the Production-Linked Incentive Scheme for mobile phones attracted a whopping investment of nearly Rs 1,300 crore and generated 22,500 jobs so far. The scheme was announced back in April 2020 during the lockdown period.
