It is known that the historic and centuries-long Ayodhya-Babri issue was settled with the Supreme Court giving its historic verdict in favor of Hindus. While saying that the disputed land belongs to Hindu deities, the Apex Court directed the Uttar Pradesh government to hand over land to Muslims s that they can build their mosque there.
The Ayodhya issue had brought the focus on other temples that have the same disputes. Kashi and Mathura are such temples. Compared to Mathura, the Kashi issue gets highlighted every time as Kashi is in Uttar Pradesh, the strong fort of the saffron party BJP.
Recently, a few Hindu women had knocked on the doors of the court seeking permission to let them pray to the Hindu idols behind the western wall of the Gyanvapi Mosque complex in Varanasi. The Court had ordered an inspection of the mosque. However, a few Mulsim bodies said that the Commissioner of the survey is supporting Hindus and the official should be removed.
Hearing a petition on the issue, the local court in Uttar Pradesh said that, the Commissioner will be retained. Directing the authorities to conduct the survey the court said that the video inspection of the mosque should be finished by May 17.
Countering the arguments of Muslim bodies that the Commissioner is favoring Hindus, two more lawyers were included in the body and now a total of three members will be in the commission. We can get clarity on the issue once the mosque is inspected.
