Candidates Unable To File Nominations In Huzurabad With Restrictions

Update: 2021-10-06 08:43 GMT
The political outfits in Telangana took the Huzurabad by-election seriously. While the government wants to win the sitting position, the opposition parties are aiming at winning the election to gain political mileage. The unemployed people and other organisers are also believed to have made plans to file the nomination.

In what it could be a hammer blow for those who want to file nominations in massive numbers, the election officials issued new guidelines for the contestants urging them to follow the guidelines citing that novel Coronavirus as a reason.

The officials of the Election Commission had directed the contestants that the Covid vaccination certificate is a must to file their nominations and they should submit the same while filing their nominations for the upcoming by-election constituency.

For the same reason, the Police personnel and Returning officers have reportedly sent back the contestants who reached to file their nominations. They were informed that they could not show their vaccination certificates and hence they were not allowed to file their nominations.

Media reports say that Upadhi Hami Field Assistants were also not happy with the government and wanted to file their nominations for the by-elections. However, their attempt failed with the cops reportedly stopping them from doing so. A few of them were taken into custody reportedly.

Forget about filing the nominations, the contestants were not given the nomination papers. The contestants were asked by the officials to download the papers from the website after refusing to give the papers. The same information was passed on to the contestants after making them wait for hours reportedly.

This led to a war of words between the election officers and the aspirants. The aspirants have questioned the officials why they were made to wait when the nomination papers should be downloaded from the EC website. The contestants are also smelling a conspiracy behind the new guidelines.

On the other hand, the leading parties in the state have already announced their candidates. Former Minister Etela Rajender will run the elections on TRS ticket, while student leader G Srinivas Yadav and National Student Union of India (NSUI) state chief Balmoori Venkat will fight the elections as Telangana Rashtra Samithi(TRS) and Congress candidates respectively.
