Update: 2020-12-08 07:17 GMT
The Andhra Pradesh government led by Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy faced one more shock over the much talked about local body elections after the Court suspended the government's plea to suspend the elections.

Hearing a petition on conducting local body polls, the High Court said it cannot issue stay orders on the elections and directed State Election Commissioner Nimmaggada Ramesh Kumar to file a counter-affidavit.

Looking at the Local body elections, SEC Nimmagadda Ramesh Kumar has earlier announced that elections will be conducted in February 2021. But the state government opposed the idea to conduct the elections.

Citing the Coronavirus outbreak, the government said, they are not ok with the elections as thousands of people were died in the state due to the pandemic, and going for elections might be risky.

With the SEC not stepping back over his decision on local body elections, Panchayati Raj, Chief Secretary Gopalakrishna Dwivedi filed a petition on the behalf of the state government.

Now it is interesting to know, what SEC Nimmagdda Ramesh Kumar will tell the court while filing a counterclaim. The next hearing will take place on the 14th of this month.
