It stars Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone as the eponymous leads and The film is said to be an adaptation of Shakespeare's epic love story Romeo and Juliet, set in violent times.

Recently a complaint was filed by advocate Pawan Sharma in the court of the additional chief metropolitan magistrate by objecting the content in the trailer
"In the complaint, we have stated that going by the promo, the movie 'Ram Leela', which is slated for release Nov 15, is promoting enmity between different groups on ground of religion," Sharma said.
After hearing the petition a court ordered police to register a case against Bollywood director Sanjay Leela Bhansali, actor Ranveer Singh, actress Deepika Padukone and others for allegedly hurting religious sentiments of people in their upcoming movie Ram Leela
