CBI seeks custodial interrogation of Maran

Telephone exchange scam again haunting former telecom minister Dayanidhi Maran, Central Bureau of Investigation [CBI] today reported to the Supreme Court that DMK leader Dayanidhi Maran is not supporting for interrogation.It sought permission from court for custodial interrogation of Maran in connection with the Telephone exchange scam.

In its affidavit filed in the Supreme Court today, the CBI said that the custodial examination of  Maran is required to ascertain the truth. It means CBI will arrest the former minister if at all the Apex court grants permission to the probe panel.The Supreme Court asked Maran to file his reply to the CBI affidavit and adjourned the case to November 27.

The case was filed against Maran in 2013. CBI alleged that during his term as Union telecom ministers, Maran laid 300 high-speed lines to his Boat Club Road residence in Chennai. It further alleged  that the  lines were used for faster transmission of signals of channels of Sun TV network which was owned by his brother Kalanithi Maran.

CBI also claimed that no money was paid for the 764 phone lines and the estimated loss may tune to Rs 1.78 crore. The former minister was interrogated extensively in Delhi by the CBI last month and he has denied any wrongdoing.
