Finally the media head honchos showed their power.Its known news that two of the popular TV news channels were officially banned on telangana from June 16. These channels were banned by the MSOs of the region after Telangana Chief Minister K Chandra Sekhar Rao slammed them in Assembly for airing derogatory news on the region.
The ban of news channels earned flak from several media houses and opposition leaders .Yesterday the Telangana unit of BJP urged Governor ESL Narasimhan to take necessary action to restore the broadcast of channels which were banned by Multiple System Operators (MSO) in Telangana.Now the party high command itself involved in solving the issue.
Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Prakash Javadekar has written a letter to Telangana Chief Minister over the issue. Javadekar urged KCR to immediately lift ban on the telecast of both these channels and help them resume their operations.
Few days back I&B ministry wrote a letter to Telangana Chief Secretary to take corrective measures but no action had been taken so finally the minister himself step into action and wrote a letter to Chief Minister to intervene. In his letter Prakash reportedly expressed his dissent over the issue and said that banning of a channel or its broadcast is gross violation of Article 19.
So we need wait and watch how Telangana government will deal with the issue henceforth.
