The Omicron infections in India are going up gradually and slowly heading towards the 600-mark. In the wake of the tense situation, the Union Government issued fresh directives to the state and Union territories. Keeping the existing situations in mind, the Centre urged the states to implement the directives.

Amid the tense situation, the Ministry of Home Affairs had urged the governments to focus on taking strict actions at district levels and permitted the governments to go for section 144 if they want to so that the virus spread can be stopped.

As per the new directives of the Union government, the existing Covid protocols would be continued till the 31st of January next year. On the behalf of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Union Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla had sent a letter to the governments.

As India witnessed the highest Omicron-triggered cases in the country in the past 24 hours, the Union government asked the states to take all the required measures to see that the virus is not spread further.

No less than 156 new Omicron infections were detected across the states in 24 hours and the Omicron infections rose to 578. The number of states/uts that reported the Omicron cases has increased with 19 states and UTs reporting the cases.
