Deepak Jayakumar (Jayalalithaa's Nephew) approached Guindy Taluk Office with the request to certify him as the legal heir of former Chief Minister late Jayalalithaa. Officials, however, turned down the proposal and advised him to approach the court as it's a bit complicated.
Deepa and Deepak are the children of Jayalalithaa's Brother Jayakumar. They are the only surviving members of Amma's Family. While Deepa decided to test her luck as politician with her own party, Deepak choose to stay away from politics but claimed stake of the properties owned by her Aunt.
Both Deepa and Deepak opposed when AIADMK Government announced that Jayalalithaa's Poes Garden residence will be converted into a memorial. Later, State Government issued a clarification that family members of Amma will be compensated and the property will be converted into memorial only with their consent.
As per the affidavit filed during the last Assembly Polls, Jayalalithaa owns properties worth over Rs 100 crore in Tamil Nadu, Telangana and Karnataka.
