Senior BJP leader, three-time MLA and former MP Chandupatla Janga Reddy is no more. He was 87. He died due to age-related ailments in Hanamkonda. Janga Reddy's claim to fame was that he had defeated former Prime Minister PV Narasimha Rao in 1984 Lok Sabha elections.
Janga Reddy's other record is that he was one of the only two MPs that BJP had in 1984, the other MP being AK Patel of Mehsana. It was from these two MPs that the BJP grew into a mighty political outfit of today. A school teacher and a diehard RSS cadre, Janga Reddy, joined Jana Sangh, the earlier avatar of the BJP.
He was an MLA thrice in undivided Andhra Pradesh. He won from Parkal in 1967, from Sayampet in 1978 and 1983. In 1984, he contested from Hanamkonda for Lok Sabha and defeated PV Narasimha Rao. Janga Reddy is well-known as Janganna in the RSS and the BJP circles and is known for his wide contacts and friendly attitude.
Several BJP leaders expressed condolences at the demise of Janga Reddy. They recalled his services to the party and to the nation. Janga Reddy's daughter in law Chandupatla Keerthi Reddy is active in the BJP and has contested the elections from the Bhupalpally assembly constituency in 2014 and 2018.
