Name Change for Telugu Desam Party?

In a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, TDP Leaders discussed about the pros and cons of changing the name of Telugu Desam Party to attain National Party status.

Notably, TDP is wishing to expand its roots to Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Odisha, Andaman Nicobar islands and Pudicherry since the bifurcation of United AP. However, The name of the party became a major hurdle for gaining foothold in other states. This issue was brought to the notice of TDP Leadership.

Chandrababu Naidu made it clear to the party senior leaders that TDP won't be able to attain National party status until 2019. "Even if party attains National status after 2019 polls, there is no need to change the name," he added.

TDP Supremo suggested party leaders to explore the opportunities in other states to expand the party. He hinted appointment of TDP National, AP & Telangana Committies post the Assembly sessions.
