Chandrababu OK, but not Lokesh

An internal survey conducted among the senior TDP leaders has sent interesting indications about how things would shape up in future. The aim of the survey was to understand the acceptance levels for Lokesh as the leader of the party.  Several key leaders did not spell out their stand for obvious reasons. However, the surveyors had their own way of eliciting responses.

It was clear that out of the 23 party MLAs, only eight or nine MLAs are ready to work under Lokesh. They were ready to accept him as the leader. But all of them were fully with Chandrababu Naidu. Many of those who are supporting Chandrababu did not have the same affinity for Lokesh . Many MLAs did not think that Lokesh Babu's stint as ministers was exciting. Most leaders said that Lokesh needs to learn a lot more and that he neds more time to emerge as a leader.

Sources say that some respondents, who were at the fag-end of their careers and wanted to promote their wards, have rooted for Lokesh. Otherwise, despite Chandrababu Naidu's ardent wishes, not many in the party felt Lokesh had the zing thing to lead the party.

The survey results reportedly shocked Chandrababu. The seniors appear to be non-committal. The leaders in general feel that Chandrababu is still indispensable for the party. But, at the same time, they have little confidence in Lokesh. The general impression is that Lokesh may need some time to emerge as the leader.
