The big news from Kuppam assembly constituency is that if assembly elections were to be held today, TDP supremo and former CM Chandrababu Naidu would lose by a staggering 30000 votes. Yes. Unbelievable but true. The results of the recent panchayat election indicate that the next assembly elections could very well mean swansong for Chandrababu Naidu.
This is real bad news for Chandrababu as he has been representing Kuppam since 1989 and has won for seven consecutive terms. But this time around, his party has lost in several places in Kuppam assembly constituency. All the four mandals of the constituency â Gudipalli, Santipuram, Ramakuppam and Kuppam â the TDP was trounced badly. Of the 89 seats that went to polls, the TDP could win only 14 places. The total majority that the YSRCP has secured in Kuppam constituency is around 30000 votes. It may be recalled that in the last elections too, Chandrababu had a scare when the YSRCP led during the counting of several rounds.
The story is much the same for other TDP leaders too. In the Palamaner constituency that was represented by TDP minister Amarnath Reddy, the TDP could win only 13 of the 76 places. In Anantapur's Singanamala too, it was the same story. Minister Kalwa Srinivasulu's nominees lost badly. Ditto with Payyavula Keshav's Uravakonda and JP Diwakar Reddy's Tadpatri.
