Chandrababu warns seniors to make way for young faces

Update: 2022-04-23 05:59 GMT
Finally, at long last, TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu has unequivocally said that seniors should not aspire for contesting elections this time. He also indicated that youth would get more preference in the party. Thus, Chandrababu has, inter alia, indicated the game is over for the seniors and that they should make way for the younger leaders to take over.

This is the first time that Chandrababu has indicated that the time is over for the seniors. Of late, there is an increasing feeling within the TDP rank and file that several seniors have lost touch with the peope and are diffident about reaching out to the people. Yet, these leaders continue to remain in key party posts. Speaking at the launch of the membership drive, Chandrababu said that while he has great respect for the seniors, he was unable to fathom their role in the party.

Take for instance leaders like Kala Venkata Rao. They have lost touch with their own constituency. Ditto with Yanama, who is insisting on giving ticket to his brother Yanamala Krishnudu, despite the latter losing repeatedly in the elections.  Sources say that Chandrababu is quite serious about not projecting the wards and heirs of the seniors in the even of the latter being asked to opt out. He  feels that the party should promote an entirely new leadership.

Chandrababu is of the opinion that altogether new and young faces should be projected for the 2024 elections. This is being seen as a major departure from the old practice of banking on the seniors despite their losing touch with the grassroots.  It remains to be seen whether the idea will be translated into reality.
