History Of Chandrakant Sompura Who Designed Architecture Of Ram Mandir

On the occasion of the foundation stone laying ceremony of the much-talked-about Ram Mandir let us know about the main architect behind the temple design of Ram Mandir.

78-year-old Chandrakant Sompura who belongs to the Sompura family is the main architect of the Ram Mandir. Since 15 generations the Sompura family has been into designing temple architecture.

Chandrakant Sompur is the 15th generation of this glorious family, which has the history of designing the architecture for temples not only in the country bust also in abroad.

Looking at some of the iconic temples designed by the Sompura family, Chandrakant's grandfather PO Sompura is the one behind the Somnath Mandir, one of the twelve Jyotirlinga shrines of Shiva.

The Sompura family that is based out of Ahmedabad made temple architectures for 200 temples and Akshardham temple complex in Gujarat, the Swaminarayan Mandir in Mumbai, and popular Birla Mandir in Kolkata are designed by them.

Chandrakant Sompura was approached by the late Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) leader Ashok Singhal around 30 years back for the Ram Mandir temple. His two sons, Nikhil (55) and Ashish (49) were also part of the architecture team.
