West Indies cricketer Chris Gayle was fined $7,200 for charges of 'Inappropriate Conduct' after he asked a TV Reporter if she could go on a date with him in a live interview.
While speaking to journalist Mel McLaughlin during a Big Bash League match held in Hobart on Monday, Chris Gayle commented, 'To see your eyes for the first time is nice. Hopefully we can have a drink afterwards. Don't blush baby'.
After the uproar, Gayle defended himself by saying his comments were neither disrespectful nor offensive. He also conveyed his apology to the Reporter if she felt something wrong in it and termed whatever he spoke during the interview was a simple joke.
On the other hand, Mel McLaughlin said she was a bit disappointed with what has happened as she don't want to be the subject of such conversations.
