Top Cricketer To Retire After 2019 World Cup

Update: 2019-02-19 04:37 GMT
It is official now. West Indies batsman Chris Gayle will retire from one-day international cricket after this summer's World Cup.

The left-handed batsman has scored 9,727 ODI runs in 284 matches since his debut in 1999. "I'm looking to draw the line - or should I say cut the string - let the youngsters have some fun and I can sit back in the party stand." Said Gayle. The World Cup will be held in England and Wales from 30 May to 14 July. Gayle from West Indies will face England in a five-match one-day series from Wednesday in Barbados.

Gayle has made 23 ODI centuries, and his 215 against Zimbabwe in 2015 is the fourth-highest score in history. He is one of only six batsmen who has scored an ODI double hundred.
