Dear Rs 2000 Note!! Where Are You??

Update: 2018-09-01 04:04 GMT
Hi... Rs 2000 note... Where are you? Long time no see? You were small and handy. One can just fold a wad of currency and can easily carry a lakh of rupees in the pocket so easily. You came into our lives when Central Government demonetized Rs 1000 and Rs 500 notes in 2016. The Government said Rs 1000 notes were being withdrawn because they were fuelling black money. Agreed. But, how come Rs 2000 note was issued? If Rs 1000 spurs black market, can Rs 2000 stop it? Well!! We did not ask many questions and got on with our lives with you warming out pockets.

But, these days you are to be seen but rately. We get to hear that the Government is gradually withdrawing the Rs 2000 and stopped its printing. As per the RBI reports, this is being done to prevent hoarding and black money.

We have been hearing that in 2017-18, the printing of Rs 2000 not has been reduced by 95 per cent. This note constituted 50 per cent of the notes in circulation. Now, it has come down to 37 per cent.  So, gradually, you are becoming scarcer and scarcer. Your  younger brother Rs 500 is there everywhere, but what about you? Hope to meet you soon again!!
