Civic Body Makes SC Angry on Jahangirpuri Issue, says Serious!

Uttar Pradesh's bulldozer model is slowly spreading its wings to other regions. After a few Bharatiya Janata Party ruled states, the national capital Delhi became fond of the model and started to use it in the Jahangirpuri area. The civic body had ordered an encroachment drive to take down the illegal constructions.

The civic body's actions had been taken to the notice of the Supreme Court the other day. On Wednesday, the court said that the drive has to be stopped as it is. Now the court heard a bunch of petitions that were filed in the court and said that the status quo of no to bulldozing has been extended and no such actions should be taken until further notice.

During the hearing, the Supreme Court had expressed its dissatisfaction over the drive even after orders were issued to halt the same. The Court said that it may have to see the issue as a serious matter as the orders are not taken seriously by the civic body authorities.

Senior advocates Kapil Sibal and Dushyant Dave have represented the petitioners. During the arguments, they have maintained that the properties and houses of the Muslim community are being targeted and sought a stay on all the demolitions across the country. However, the court said no to the proposal.

After the infamous Ramnavami processions in Delhi, the civic body surprised everyone by announcing that the illegal constructions will be taken down. Many activists and the opposition parties have condemned this and accused the civic body of targeting Muslims.
