Competitive Hindutva Politics In AP

Update: 2021-01-07 03:39 GMT
It's competitive Hindutva time in otherwise caste-dominated Andhra Pradesh these days. All the three major parties are competing with one another by flaunting their Hindutwa credentials. The TDP seems to be ahead of the other parties in this.

Post Ramatirtham incident, Chandrababu told his party's politburo meeting that he was a proud Hindu. 'If I win I will worship Lord of Tirumala. If you win, you go to Jerusalem,' he commented on Chief Minister YS Jagan. That he chose the party politburo meet to say this is an indication that he is set to use Hindutva in the days to come. But, the original Hindutva party, the BJP, too is now going ballistic on temple attacks. The party is planning a massive awareness drive in the state on the issue of temple attacks.

Not to be left behind, the ruling YSRCP too has jumped into the fray. It has decided to rebuild all the 40 temples that Chandrababu Naidu government had destroyed during the Pushkarams. Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy will launch the works on Thursday. Thus, Hindutwa is coming to the centre-stage of AP politics, which till now saw only caste issues being played out.
