What is happening to the Congress. On one hand, some leaders are going hammer and tongs on the BJP on Article 370. But on the other hand, more and more leaders are coming out in support of the Governmentâs decision First it was Jairam Ramesh. He praised Modi's decision to revoke Article 370. Supporting him to hilt, senior Congress leaders Abhishekh Manu Singhvi and Thiruvananthapuram MP Shashi Tharoor have come out in to the open. They supported Jairam Ramesh, who said there was no need to demonise Narendra Modi even when he did right things. Singhvi said Modi's actions should be judged on the basis of issues and not his personality. Singhvi said Ujwala scheme was a good initiative and must be praised. Tharoor said praising Modi when he deserves will help the Opposition's case. It will add to the Opposition's credibility, he said.
Their open praise of Modi has left Congress confused. Leaders like Manish Tiwari sought to avoid questions on their comments. He said : "Insofar as the comments made by various people, whom you have referred to, are concerned, they are in the best position to clarify or amplify or retract or subtract their remarks.'' Former union minister and Congress leader KK Tiwary condemned the statements of Jairam Ramesh, Tharoor and Singhvi. Former president Pranab Mukherjee's daughter and Congress leader Sharmistha Mukherjee said Modi must realise that nation building is an ongoing process carried on by successive governments and criticised Modi and his team for belittling Nehru's contribution.
